I have loved Nesbo's Harry Hole series for years, anxiously waiting new entries to be translated. So why did it take me all this time to read Headhunters, Nesbo's first novel, a standalone about Roger Brown a self consciously shorter than average suit with a beautiful wife, a beautiful head of hair, and a bad habit as an art thief?

Anyone who is interested in Nordic thrillers should read this boo

Review Headhunters (Headhunters) [PDF READ] » Jo Nesbo Jo Nesbo ↠ 2 Free read I adore the Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbo and, from the first books I read in translation have been struck by his slick prose, tight plotting and wonderful characterization, characterization that is so skilled it allows the reader to both experience and understand the hero's strengths and weaknesses and thus forgive and support his actions. Headhunters, a one off book set in corporate Oslo, did not impress nor captivate me nearly as much.

(Headhunters) [PDF READ] » Jo Nesbo To be perfectly honest I thought I'd give this one a shot because Jamie Lannister is on the cover it's definitely not a book I would have bought normally as I don't really do crime stories.
I thought it was beautifully written though sometimes stomach churningly descriptive and I liked absolutely no one in the story (least of a

In 2011 (I think) I was in Hong Kong and had an afternoon to kill so went to see the film made of this book. It was somewhat sureal. An English guy watching a Norwegian movie in a Hong Kong cinema, but there you go it was what it was. The film wasn't just the best Norwegian film I'd ever see

(Headhunters) [PDF READ] » Jo Nesbo Review Headhunters This is only my second Jo Nesbo book, the first being the opener in the Harry Hole series.
The central protagonist here is a head hunter in the world of corporate recruitment for Norwegian businesses. Roger Brown appears to have almost everything a intelligence, wealth, a job he loves and excels at, and a beautiful wife. The only thing missing is height, something of which he is extremely self conscious. However, we s

(Headhunters) [PDF READ] » Jo Nesbo There is a new book by Jo Nesbo, 'Blood on Snow' due out soon but, when I started reading 'Headhunters' it was the last remaining Jo Nesbo that I hadn't read. I'm pleased that there is yet another 'last book' as I would be saddened to think that Headhunters was my last Nesbo; going out with a whimper rather than a bang.

There is a sniff of the usual Nesbo quality, towards the end, when the plot twists and decepti

Roger Brown, our hero or antihero depending on your viewpoint, does a narrative that explains the five rules of art theft. He then proceeds with a poised wit to demonstrate his manipulative gifts by bending a client to his will while extracting the information he needs to steal a valuable lithograph of Ed

Jo Nesbo ↠ 2 Free read Headhunters Read & download ☆ 2 Keeps the twists and shocks coming hard and fast MetroLIE Clever wealthy married to a beautiful woman Roger Brown has it all And his sideline as an art thief keeps him busy when his job as a corporate. I adore the Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbo and from the first books I read in translation have been struck by his slick prose tight plotting and wonderful characterization characterization that is so skilled it allows the reader to both experience and understand the hero s strengths and weaknesses and thus forgive and support his actions Headhunters a one off book set in corporate Oslo did not impress nor captivate me nearly as muchWhile the first person narrative contains the usual Nesbo flair for thrilling plots populated by ghastly villains and miscellaneous others who exit and enter the characters in Headhunters failed to leave an impression Part of the reason for this I think is because from the outset they are uite superficial The lead character and POV of the novel headhunter and part time art thief Roger Brown is a narcissistic prat and unattractive in the psychological and emotional sense anti hero who boasts about not only the way he can read people but practically every other element of his life his outstanding reputation in his main gig as a corporate headhunter his grasp of FBI interrogation techniues and perfection of them his beautiful art gallery owner wife his hair his manner of dress etc etc While he tries to suggest he is comfortable with his relatively short stature there is also a sense in which he does protest too much and the reader cannot help but think that Roger works hard to overcompensate This is something that in many ways holds true when he meets the than capable former executive and soldier Clas Greve and decides he might be a suitable candidate for a top job But when Roger learns that this man also owns an original Rubens the cocky Roger decides to risk another job on the side only he ends up risking than he ever bargained for and a deadly cat and mouse game a head hunting of a different and very final kind ensuesAs mentioned above I didn t like any of the characters in this book While I wondered if this was social commentary on Nesbo s part a sort of satire about how shallow and egotistic we ve become and the reader wasn t meant to like anyone I am now on reflection not so sure After all in Nesbo s later books the Hole ones one of the great strengths is the marvellous shades of grey in which characters are painted revealing the rich canvas of what passes for morality and how even ethics have a context In Headhunters no such complexity exists and rather than a three dimensional picture of human foibles and choices we are given a very superficial portrayal indeedFurther the plot was clich d in parts too far fetched in others the scene in the outdoor toilet was just silly and above all predictable Mind you that didn t mean I wanted to stop reading Nesbo is a very good storyteller after all It just meant I didn t really care I didn t care who lived who died or what the outcome was I didn t invest That made me feel a little sadReading that Hollywood is making a film out of this book surprised me It s not that original I would have thought the Hole stories would have offered much complex fare maybe that s the rub Still it s not a bad book by any stretch of the imagination and made for a uick summer read It s just not the Nesbo I have come to admire and look forward to so much

This is only my second Jo Nesbo book the first being the opener in the Harry Hole seriesThe central protagonist here is a head hunter in the world of corporate recruitment for Norwegian businesses Roger Brown appears to have almost everything a intelligence wealth a job he loves and excels at and a beautiful wife The only thing missing is height something of which he is extremely self conscious However we soon learn all is not perfect There is a regretted affair a fraught relationship with a working class father and a side line in art theft to help pay for the gallery he funds for the wife he fears losing When said wife introduces him to Clas Greve seemingly the perfect candidate to recruit on behalf of an important client it seems that perhaps the pointless gallery event Brown has endured may not be a complete waste of timeI found Headhunters rather laboured especially the first third Perhaps this is in part due to the introductions of so many rather unlikeable characters Brown the lead and story narrator is egocentric arrogant and paranoid at the same time and seems to be a generally unpleasant and controlling person Greve is similarly arrogant and thoroughly ruthless We don t see a huge amount of Brown s trophy wife but the art gallery project screens of self indulgence Lotte with whom Brown had his brief ill advised affair is portrayed as helpless and not a little bit pitifulOnce the characters are in play things pick up During a further conversation with Brown Greve confides that he is in possession of an important artwork one that could solve all his money problems and Brown immediately sets about planning to steal the painting During the theft a chance discovery shakes Brown s to his core and unsure of himself his snap decision leads to a violent manhunt and a very unpleasant day for our antihero As the day progresses it becomes apparent Greve is not as first appearedWhilst not as good as The Bat it is far from terrible and I rather enjoyed the way the story concludes I have read good reviews for many of the Harry Hole series so I hope for better with the second Harry Hole but this is certainly good enough to kill a few hours on a plane or beach
