Price ´ 0 Free read The story of Paul is one of irony the New Testament depicting him at the martyrdom of Stephen holding the assassins' cloaks Then this same Paul is transformed into the biblical archetype for someone suffering for their faith He becomes so entrenched it would appear that he had walked with the Christians all his life that he was the one who defined the faith eventually being called the “second founder of Christianity” But much of wh. Bob Price again explores from a very uestioning often cynical and mostly very learned perspective the history of the early years and traditions of what was to become christianity as we know it though most believers from many sects don t uite know it Always entertaining in the midst of his very dense serious scholarship Bob continues here to challenge the often simplistic orthodox understandings of scripture Here he discusses the many sources most of which were NOT related to the legendary Jewish man named Paul in both Acts and the Epistles Born againers orthodox RCatholics and even many everyday Protestant Sunday churchgoers will not like this book But if you really want to understand where your beliefs and faith originate read this and other BPrice works Certainly it is a great read for non christians other faiths agnostics atheists who are interested in the history of early christian and hence European and Mediterranean history One caveat Bob s language is often very academic theologian so if you are not used to reading such works a good dictionary or access to at references at least on the Wikipedia level may be reuired to understand what he is discussing

Price ´ 0 Free read Than life in the New Testament The epistles give evidence of having been written at the end of the first century or early in the second too late to have been Paul’s actual writings So who wrote and rewrote them F C Baur a nineteenth century theologian pointed persuasively to Simon Magus as the secret identity of “Paul” Robert M Price in this exciting journey of discovery gives readers the background for a story we thought we knew. Makes the Pauline and other lettersepistles come alive but one can never think again that what we have here is the dictated instructions from god of course this is what the writer of Paul s writings thought but not in the sense understood by us reading today completely biassed by the content of the gospels preceding them in the NT Basically the book starts with an optimistic view of finding the real Paul but the diabetic has us ending with a hopeless ever shrinking Paul until there is nothing really left Like his work on the historical Jesus we come to realise that the whole early Christian movement and the formation of the New Testament is uite different to what we are taught to believe Our NT is uite literally a catholicised version the orthodox but late winners of a battle of religious meaning that occurred around the Christ myth
