review Learning from the Patient ì PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB free Summary ï PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB free ´ Patrick J. Casement In one volume this book presents Patrick Casement's two classic works On Learning from the Patient and Further Learning from the Patient The patient's unconscious contribution to analytic work is fully explor. In Learning From The Patient psychoanalyst Patrick Casement invites the reader to roam around his head as he considers various analytical theories and the interactional experience that goes on between patients and analyststherapists To me Casement is impressive not only because of the breadth of his theoretical knowledge but because of his deep humility openness and candor While reading the book I kept thinking of a scene from the fantasy series Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin I know but stay with me However let me just say here that it was years ago that I read those books so it is both possible and highly likely that what follows is something I have made up and doesn t actually take place in any of the books If you re okay with that please read on In the scene that I recall or have made up a young boy who has been shown to have a knack for magic is sent to apprentice a great wizard Ged who lives in the mountains forrest Now unlike in the Harry Potter series which I have not read and have only seen the first of the movies but will still talk uite freely and critically about here where magic is performed by everyone at the drop of a hat the wizard of Earthsea is a reclusive dude who tries really hard to not do much hocus pocus The reason for this is that when he does when he shape shifts or conjures or whatever they call it it tampers with the balance of nature itself Sometimes this can be okay but sometimes it can open the door to some very serious and unforeseen ie otherworldly and really spooky conseuences Thus Ged aware of his tremendous and largely uncontrollable power for good or ill comes across much as a kind of renunciate monk than he does a former broom riding uidditch player The guy is so deeply attuned to the gossamer fabric of existence that when the talented young kid shows up and wants to learn some flashy tricks he literally doesn t know how to speak to him The distance between the two characters is so vast it s unbridgeable If I remember correctly pffft I think the kid lasts a couple of days and then bags out and leaves the forrest for magic school For me reading Casement was a little like being invited to go mushroom picking with Ged It s a privilege just to be around the guy and to witness the depth of care thoughtfulness feeling self reflection and finesse that he brings to each of his patients

review Learning from the Patient ì PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB free Summary ï PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB free ´ Patrick J. Casement Ed Casement writes with unusual openness about what really happens in the consulting room including mistakes his own as well as others' Everything in psychoanalytic theory and techniue is up for uestioning an. Why do I love this book Because it is sincere In sincerity lies the uality of the book the ability to learn from mistakes This is why it is informative Because it s real it s not a theoretical book Not so many therapists are able to discuss their thoughts successes and mistakes with the reader There is too much conceptual knowledge and few practical knowledge in the majority of psychoanalytic books This book is an exceptionI want to say that there are too many transference interpretations in the bookeverything the patient says about past or the present is interpreted by Casement in the here and now of the transference as lack of care perceived by the patientIt is an exaggeration according to me because there is no place for drives intrapsychic conflict and extra transference interpretationsThe positive side is the clear description of the importance of containment revealed through clinical examples

This is an excellent book Easy to read and well worth reading It is about working with patients so it is about techniue than theory or rather it focuses on techniue and the theory that underlies the techniue is discretely referred to rather than dwelt upon His main message is about learning from the patient in the sense that he believes that on some level the patient knows what he needs from therapyanalysis and the therapist s demanding job is to create a context that enables the patient to get what heshe needs
